See the About page for an explanation of my methodology. That being said, I am flexible if students have a specific way they would like the lessons to progress.
All lessons are conducted live online via Zoom, so the student will need a device to connect with. In addition, the student should bring a pencil, ruler, calculator, notebook and paper for rough working.
Yes – a free trial session is available for group lessons, so you can see how a lesson runs before committing.
Small group tuition is often just as effective as 1-to-1 tuition. The small group size means I follow each student’s progress in the lesson, and students can benefit from increased motivation and hearing other students’ questions and answers. That being said, if a student is a particularly slow or fast learner, or has a specific requirement from the tuition, 1-to-1 would be more suitable.
Yes. Students who join in year 10, or who are sitting GCSE Maths a year early, often attend both the Year 10/11 and Practice Paper groups for example. Students completing the GCSE early (e.g. home-schoolers) can attend all three GCSE groups.
I teach the whole maths syllabus from year 7 to year 13, Further Maths included. I also teach SATs and 11+.
The group lessons are generally tailored to the Pearson Edexcel exam board, since that is by far the most popular exam board for GCSE, IGCSE and A Level Maths. That being said, the maths content for all exam boards is almost entirely the same, and the difference lies mainly with the way the exam questions are structured, so students of less common exam boards would still benefit from the group lessons.
There are slight differences in the content and exam structure, but they are 99% the same. I make students aware of any important differences if teaching a group with both GCSE and IGCSE students.
